Free C / C++ IDE for Windows, Linux and Mac OS

Most of the C C++ IDE are for older version of Windows and Linux and they hardly run on newer Operating Environment. To cop up with this problem, CodeLite was developed in Open source world. 

CodeLite is open source software IDE for C/C++ development and is available for different platforms like Windows, Linux, Mac OS. It
is Open source, free and is licensed under GPLv2 license. 

This new version of CodeLite has fixed its earlier bugs and is now performing great. CodeLite inherits features of Open Source Licensing such as

DropIt : A tool for organizing files and folders

When it comes to managing a large number of files and folders, it really becomes a tough job. Huge time taking and sometimes even frustrating. Just imagine you have to compress 5000 files. You will have to compress each files separately one by one wasting a huge lot of time and your resources. Here is tool which can automate all the processing realted to files and folders and it really works great. It might seem to you a small software but as you get familiar with it, you will know the power of it.

Handbrake is an open source free Video Converter that converts from common multimedia files including un protected DVDs or Blu Ray sources to a large number of output formats. Its a cross platform available for Windows, Linux and Mac OS x .

  • Pango. The goal of Pango is to provide an open-source framework for the layout and rendering text into GNOME environments. GNOME environment is popular tool kit for the development of Graphical User Interface. Pango's major role is to provide localized text rendering. Open Source Softwares / Free softwares provides an alternative to the high cost Proprietary softwares. The software costing in hundreds of $$$ have alternative all over the internet. Here we are compiling Top 10 open source / free softwares. Only five of them are discussed here.



  • Linux. Linux is a popular operating system which is the best example of free and open source software. That means its not only free to use but its underlying source code is also available for modification, redistribution. Linux has many different distributions developed along with its progress.   • Mozilla. Mozilla is also both free and open source. It is free and cross platform Internet software suite that includes

The top 5 Linux distributions.

Here is a short list of top 5 best Linux Distributions: 


Ubuntu is considered as one of most user friendly operating system with best GUI (Graphical User Interfaces) among all its complementary. Ubuntu is by-far the most used operating system by novice. If you are new to Linux and don't have a deeper knowledge and understanding of how Linux runs, you must try Ubuntu first. It tops the list of best 5 linux distribution according to me.

Fedora was created to be user friendly. Yet, it contains all the powerful-ness of Linux. It is a powerful as any other distros and supports both graphical mode and command line. Fedora is designed user friendly and has beautiful artwork. Much better than windows. You will the desktop,, file systems, navigation. Almost everything about it. Fedora has a huge collection of its open source apps.

CentOS is derived from Red Hat Linux Distributions. It was released in 2004, and supports many languages. The chances are you will find it in a language that best suits you. Powerful and easy to use. In fact, We have been provided centOS in our college. There is no support system for centOS which is one of its disadvantages. Still, its one the best to use for students who don't to miss the strength of Linux on the cost of GUI.

 OpenSuse is considered as a desktop OS. It competes directly with Ubuntu in its user interface.It has somewhat magical desktop with beautiful graphics. It is built on Linux kernel 3.4. Some other features include inclusion of Open suite, media players, and a lots of software replacement which you use in Windows. Its completely open source and free as other Linux distributions and its support system is present. Best for a beginner after Ubuntu.
